Donnie Wahlberg, Pete Postlethwaite and Michael Rapaport - what a cast!
Shakespearean Comedy Blends With Film Noir in Action Thriller
Toronto, April 26, 2001: If William Shakespeare were writing for the movies, he might have given "Twelfth Night" a new twist and penned the comedic action thriller Triggermen.
Featuring an all-star cast, the story has a Raymond Chandler influence, with characters borrowed from the seedy landscape of an Elmore Leonard novel.
Screen veteran Pete Postlethwaite leads the all-star cast, playing Ben Cutler, a retiring crime boss. Professional hit men Terry and Tommy, played by Donny Wahlberg and Michael Rapaport, are hired to assassinate him. The payoff money is stolen by two bumbling English crooks -- Pete Maynard (Neil Morrissey) and Andy Jarrett (Adrian Dunbar). Mistaken for the real triggermen, they have some decisions to make as their getaway is thwarted by psychotic Irish mobster Franco D'Amico (Louis Di Bianco), the heavy-hitter who put out the contract.
Complicating the action are the love interests. Amanda Plummer is Andy's long-suffering girlfriend Penny and Claire Forlani is Emma, the crime kingpin's daughter, who unwittingly falls for Terry as he seeks both the money and the mystery target.
Comments John Gillespie, Executive Producer of the feature and CEO of Now Entertainment Group, "In a movie like Triggermen, casting is critical and our cast couldn't be more impressive. This seasoned group of actors will do justice to Tony Johnston's smart script, which is a crime thriller with humor. We have mistaken identities, murder, betrayal and redemption. Nothing is black and white in the world of Triggermen. Key characters are motivated by love, which drives their actions and allows them to find their way through a maze of conflicting loyalties. Ultimately, it's a film that expresses a belief in second chances and navigates dark currents with a light touch."
Pete Postlethwaite has a lengthy list of screen credits, including Amistad, The Usual Suspects, Jurassic Park: The Lost World and Martin Scorsese's upcoming Gangs of New York. Donnie Wahlberg's credits include The Sixth Sense and Ransom. Michael Rapaport was featured in The 6th Day, Men of Honor and Bamboozled. Neil Morrissey is well-known for his roles in the BBC's Happy Birthday Shakespeare and Men Behaving Badly. Adrian Dunbar is known to audiences from The Crying Game and Shooters. Amanda Plummer has appeared in Pulp Fiction, So I Married An Axe Murderer and Seven Days to Live. Claire Forlani was the leading lady in Meet Joe Black. Louis Di Bianco's screen credits include Moonstruck and Married To It. Writer Tony Johnston's credits include Full Disclosure and Tunnel.
Daniel Baldwin (Born on the Fourth of July, Homicide: Life On The Street) is Associate Producer of the movie, whose director is John Bradshaw (Full Disclosure, The Killing Moon).
Triggermen, which is currently filming in Toronto, is a joint project of Now Entertainment Group of Toronto and International West Pictures (IWP) of Germany.
