BLAST - the story

"Blast" is a high action drama in which struggling marine tug boat pilot and single dad LAMONT DIXON (Eddie Griffin) becomes an unlikely hero when he suddenly finds himself pitted against a radical group of eco terrorists hell-bent on holding the U.S. to ransom.

When Lamont Dixon accepts a last minute Christmas day assignment to tow an oil rig out to sea, he imagines that if things go well, the windfall paycheck will go a long way to help raise his godson ERIC JR. (Nicky Andrews) – a responsibility the normally care-free tugboat skipper only recently acquired.

However, things go anything but well, as a group of well-armed mercenaries overpower the crew and seize the oilrig just off the California coast. Led by the celebrated and reclusive MICHAEL KITTRIDGE (Vinnie Jones), the attackers initially claim to be environmental activists; but as their tactics turn to murder, their hidden agenda is revealed to be nothing less than the first blow of a 21st century Pearl Harbor aimed at the American homeland: For Green is in the pay of a foreign power, and he plans to use the rig as the perfect launching pad for an EMP (ElectroMagnetic Pulse) weapon - one designed to wipe out America’s front line defenses in an instant.

With his crew murdered and his adopted son critically injured, Lamont finds himself in the unexpected position of being the only person the authorities can turn to defeat Green’s conspiracy. Soon shore-based FBI Agent LISA REED becomes dependant on Sonny, first for information, and then, increasingly, action. But as zero hour approaches, Sonny has to wrestle with his own memories of the last time he faced death – as a fireman two years previously, in the same deadly blaze that killed Eric’s father.

Outnumbered, outgunned and all but out of time, Sonny must also deal with the very unwanted assistance of JAMAL WILKES (Breckin Meyer), a techno-geek aboard the oil rig. Amusing, annoying, and inventive, Jamal may or may not be a mole working deep undercover… and whether he’s undercover for the good guys or the bad becomes literally a life-or-death question – for Lamont, for Eric – and for the whole country.
