SYNOPSIS

TOBY, JUDE, and CASEY are business students at college and spend most of their free time gambling. They gamble on sporting events, video games, how hot the next girl who walks into a bar would be. After a hefty loss on a big game, they come to realize that the odds are always with the bookie and they decide to set up shop in their dorm and become the book, themselves.

Casey, who is computer savvy, sets up spreadsheets and elaborate systems on his laptop to assist in the operations’ success. Toby, Jude and Casey take the bets, Casey processes them and Jude is in charge of collection. To help reduce risk, no bet over $500 is taken. In no time, the operation is up and running and extremely profitable. The three begin enjoying the fruits of their labor as they begin to have a better social life, accumulate toys for their dorm room like a new stereo system with a big screen TV, not to mention Jude picking up that sports car he always wanted.

With the operation’s continued success, our three bookies have more disposable income, become more popular, party harder as they continue to cement their relationship. And Toby becomes more confident and begins dating the cool and popular, and very beautiful co-ed, HUNTER.

However, as business continues to boom, problems lurk around the corner: The local mafia is soon aware of their presence, and Toby has difficulties keeping Hunter in the dark about the bookie operation.

Busy making money, the trio quickly fall behind in their studies. Jude’s drug taking increases, as does his paranoia and desire to expand the operation. Jude is sick of Toby’s conservative behavior and wants to kill the $500 limit. In an effort to help Jude get off drugs, Toby agrees to drop the limit and in return, Jude has to go cold turkey on the drugs. No sooner is the deal struck, than a new customer makes a wager for $100,000. Even though Toby knows taking the bet is crazy, Jude reminds him of the deal to kill the limit and Toby acquiesces. The mafia is behind the $100, 000 bet and with a little luck, our three wind up winning the bet.

The mafia, not happy about their loss, informs our bookies that they should consider themselves lucky and they won’t be paying off on the $100,000 bet. Toby and Casey feel indeed happy to be alive, yet Jude feels he has been wronged by the mob and wants to collect. Toby can’t believe his ears…

Jude convinces Casey to assist in storming the mob’s inner sanctum to collect the money that is rightfully theirs. Toby arrives just in the nick of time and convinces Jude to abandon the operation. Toby has come up with a violence-free plan to get them their money: Toby offers the mob a deal; he will give them all their clients and all their business and cease their operation for one more bet: A $100,000 bet to be decided by the mob and if the mob wins, our young bookies have to pay the mob $100,000, and if our young college boys win, the mob has to fork over $100,000. The mob picks a boxing match and the favored boxer is assigned to our three young bookies. After watching the hard fought fight, the boxer that the three friends had their money on loses, therefore causing our young men to pay the mob $100,000. Even though we think Toby, Jude and Casey have lost, the opposite is true. Toby predicted that the mob fixed the fight, so the three of them got together and pooled all their money and bet against “their” boxer. Toby, Jude and Casey happily paid the mob $100,000, but wind up having $300,000 winnings after all is said and done.

Their celebration is short lived, however, as Jude’s drug addiction flairs up and he flunks out of college. Toby gets his heart broken by Hunter and Casey drops out of college and bets his future and his portion of the earnings on an Internet start up. Toby remains in college, yet the bookmaking operation has changed his life forever.
