Til Schweiger (Max Schmeling)
One of the most successful actors from Germany today, Til Schweiger has recently made the crossover to mainstream American movies. He currently stars as Max Schmeling in the IWP, MPCA and Gemini Films production, "Joe and Max", an epic drama produced in association with Starz-Encore. The film is a poignant depiction of boxing legends Joe Louis and Max Schmeling. This pair of heavyweight champions fought each other in two of the most memorable bouts in ring history. Although enemies inside the ring and from countries at war with each other, these two men forged an amazing bond of friendship which endured for nearly thirty years, from the days leading up to World War II through the early 1960's.

In his native Germany, Schweiger is a multi-hyphenate, having acted, directed and produced several critically acclaimed films such as "Der Eisbär" ("The Polar Bear") and "Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door" for which he won the Best Actor Award at the Moscow Film Festival. Schweiger also starred in "Ebbie’s Bluff" for which he won the Best Young Actor Award at the Max Ophuls Festival, and in "Maybe, Maybe Not", which is one of the most successful German films to date, having grossed over $49 million USD.

Schweiger also starred in "Jetzt Oder Nie" ("Now or Never"), which generated both critical acclaim and box office success. His other successful films include "Auf Herz + Nieren" and the smash hit comedy "Der Bewegte Mann".

Schweiger’s English-speaking roles include "Brute", co-starring Pete Postlethwaite and John Hurt, for which he received the Polish Oscar for Best Actor. He also co-starred in two American films - "SLC Punk!" opposite Matthew Lillard and Michael Goorjian, which debuted at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival and "Judas Kiss" opposite Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman.

Most recently, Schweiger can be seen co-starring in the Warner Bros./Franchise Pictures action film "Driven". The film, produced and directed by Renny Harlin and produced by Elie Samaha, is based on the world of car racing. Schweiger plays a champion racecar driver who competes against a younger rival for the NASCAR title. Schweiger shares the screen with Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds, Kip Pardue and Estella Warren.

Schweiger also stars in "Investigating Sex", a film directed by Alan Rudolph and co-starring Nick Nolte, Robin Tunney and Neve Campbell. This dramedy focuses on a group of male and female stenographers who scientifically investigate sex - sexual forensics. The film was shot on location in Berlin and was produced by Gemini Films and Nolte’s Kings Gate Films along with co-producer, Janus Films.

Schweiger currently resides in Los Angeles.
